Isolation to Connection Task Force identify and gathers yourselves!
Artists of the African Diaspora of the last two centuries have been uplifted and burdened by being of a community that shares the story of a homeland, forced departure and a limited citizenship in their new homes.
Like the conflicting and disturbing history of Plymouth Rock the relationship of a home has been mythical, burdened with dislocation, conflicting, tense and profoundly innovative and beautiful. Spanning from Catlett to Baraka to Shange to Dash to Rivera to Walker to Chuck D to Gerima and Basquiat we have claimed on the world stage a complicated Home space.
Straddling the multiple desires of mastering tradition, reflecting communal concerns and visions and innovating the imagination of the nation and the world at large. Artists of the African Diaspora and those that utilize its forms have re-imagined what it means to be at Home and what it is to be an artist.
These artists of the African Diaspora (Including but not limited to Multiracial, Blacks, Latinos and Indigenous Native) and those influenced by its traditional and contemporary forms.
This show brings together fine, performing, craft, intellectual, activist and commercial visual artists. Specifically we want those who see art as ritual as a gesture - idea or physical to release the isolation of the mind, heart and body. One of the goals to re-shift the imagination regarding community.
Submissions for a dynamic installation of artists whose work is at the forefront of birthing a “Call and Response” between their inner selves, community, nation and world. It is a presentation of Home. Work that explores of our greatest disappointments, fears and most innovative visions about our historical, contemporary and future Home. This show is coming together of mythic and historic proportion. It marks the conversations with Home in a post 20th Century Civil Rights Movement and Black Arts Movement and independence and nationalist movements in the Caribbean, South America and Africa. It is welcomes multiple violent and gentle visions of Home. A visual and performing art metamorphosis by descendants of the African Diaspora and those who utilize the images and cultural practices.
